Give your flooring a summer makeover
If you’ve been meaning to get new flooring sorted for your home, spring and summer is the ideal time for it.
You shouldn’t wait until it’s too wet and cold outside, as installation often requires doors to be open – a lot. That’s to bring in new materials, take out old materials and to ventilate away those ‘‘factory fresh’’ odours and any whiffs of adhesive.
Flooring, especially wood flooring, also needs to acclimatise to the indoor environment. This involves taking on the humidity level and temperature found indoors to avoid problems later.
Autumn and spring are the ideal times to do this because conditions are likely to be midrange, which increases the odds of a flawless installation.
A specials stand at The Flooring Warehouse is stacked with options for refreshing your home for 2023.
Included are wool carpets by Bremworth and Wools of New Zealand, which The Flooring Warehouse owner Graeme Coey says have bounced back into favour as people turn to renewable flooring materials because of their lower impact on the environment.
Offering good insulation, long-lasting visual appeal and the ability to handle dirt and moisture better than most synthetic fibres, wool carpets have joined timber flooring as the strongest-growing segments of the market, Graeme says.
Vinyl with highly realistic wood patterns or designed to look like tiles is also popular, he says.
‘‘People like to hunker down over winter and summer is a good time to prepare for that – disrupt your home while the weather’s nice, so you’re comfortable and cosy when it gets colder.
‘‘We’ve got some fantastic bargains at the moment. We’re always looking for specials that we can pass on, and some items are basically half price. It represents awesome value for money but you do have to be quick.
‘‘There are also some really good specials on roll vinyl in a whole range of styles.’’
The Flooring Warehouse stocks options for every scenario, whether it’s a large commercial fit-out or an ensuite that needs updating.
Tiles, laminates, engineered timber, carpets and vinyl flooring of every style are displayed at the showroom in Sydenham, backed up by friendly, knowledgeable advice and service.
With a team of 18 providing everything from interior decorating tips to full measures, quotes and the final installation, the company is one of Canterbury’s leading authorities on all things flooring.
Graeme started the business in 2005 having already spent over 30 years in the industry, and most staff with him are fully certified or working toward a flooring qualification.
‘‘We’re happy to help through the whole process,’’ he says. ‘‘It’s a really good time to make those plans.’’
