Save on energy bills with Showerdome

-

With the weather cooling down, our thoughts turn to the pain of larger power bills.

Enter Showerdome, a revolutionary device that helps save not just on energy costs but home maintenance too.

Completely eliminating bathroom steam, it helps keep your home dryer, healthier and stops you from constantly having to clean your bathroom from mildew.

The energy costs add up too. With Showerdome you can shut off your extractor fan, close the window, and use less hot water to stay warm while you shower.

You also won’t be heating as much water, and heating takes place at a lower temperature within your shower, leading to considerable cost savings.

If you step out of the shower and notice steam on the mirror and moisture on your walls, you have a condensation problem. Condensation makes the air harder to heat and creates an environment for mould to flourish, which, if left unchecked, can rot interiors and affect your respiratory health.

Skeptical? Here's a quick look at the science behind Showerdome.

To create steam you need two components – warm moist air from your shower, and cold air from your bathroom. A Showerdome simply stops the cold air from your bathroom from mixing with the warm moist air that your shower creates, and therefore stops steam from forming.

Inventor Ken Evans from Tauranga came up with the simple concept while waiting for his kettle to boil one evening. He realised that there was no steam inside the kettle – that it was only formed once the hot air came out the spout and mixed with the cool kitchen air.

Ken's mind started ticking over, and he figured that the theory must apply in his bathroom as well.

Within minutes Ken had set up a trial in his bathroom.

He placed a flat sheet of acrylic over the top of his shower cubicle, and turned the mixer to hot.

After an hour there was still no steam in his shower or bathroom.

Ken was eager to bring his invention to the market and after years of careful research, testing and development, the final product was ready. It's since been installed in thousands of homes across New Zealand and the world, keeping bathrooms dry and healthy whatever the season.

It's especially useful in winter though, as the air is naturally colder and steam forms more easily. Having a warmer, drier home can also cut down on heating costs - it's a win-win!

Each Showerdome is made in New Zealand and comes with a lifetime guarantee to stay crystal clear - something Kiwis love.
