If you’re looking for something a bit silly to occupy your time, surely something called The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin fits the bill. Noel Fielding (The

Mighty Boosh, Great British Bake Off) stars as the title character, a (real life) historical figure, who becomes the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws. The cast is packed with UK stars – including Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Greg Davies (Taskmaster) and Black Books’ Tamsin Greig. The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is streaming now on Apple TV+

If you definitely don’t want to laugh, but want to be utterly captivated, get in front of Netflix’s Ripley. Starring the always brilliant Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers), it is the retelling of the scandalous, murderous tale of Tom Ripley. Scraping by in 1960s New York, he is hired to go to Italy to bring a wayward rich kid home. Of course, anyone who has read Patricia Highsmith’s book, or watched Matt Damon’s film portrayal will know things go a little off script. Ripley is streaming now on Netflix
