Keep cosy this winter with Enviro Master
If winter follows you inside before you can shut the door behind you, it’s time to find a way to beat the cold.
GrantandMichelleWadleyofEnviro Master are expert advisers in this battle against chilly temperatures.
For each person they advise, they’ll discuss the specific heating requirements of the home in order to recommend a heat pump that fits the household’s requirements.
One question they regularly run into is: ‘‘How much will it cost?’’ While the answers for this vary, depending on each person’s home, Grant and Michelle are always keen to let people know that if you are eligible for Warmer Kiwi Homes funding, a new heat pump could be much, much cheaper than you’d think.
Warmer Kiwi Homes is a NZ Government programme offering insulation and heating grants for lower-income households, including 80% of the cost of an approved heater. Heater grants are capped at $3000 including GST.
To access the funding, people need either a Community Services Card, a SuperGold combo card or to live in a low-income area as determined by deciles 8-10 on the New Zealand Deprivation Index.
They must be the owner/occupier of a home built before 2008, have insulation up to code (subsidies are available for this also) and have no fixed heating, such as an existing operational heat pump or fireplace.
Warmer Kiwi Homes is run by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) in partnership with a select group of trusted heat pump providers.
Enviro Master was chosen to be an installer for the Christchurch area because of its long track record of supplying and servicing high-quality, fit-for-purpose heat pumps, which it installs only after a free consultation to ensure customers receive the unit best suited to their needs.
Even if you’re not eligible for funding, the expert team will do their best to find a heating solution that fits your home and budget.
Enviro Master has no affiliation to any single manufacturer and is therefore unbiased when recommending the best unit for a home. Recommendations are instead based on the particular requirements of the customer and the environment in which the heat pump will operate.
The company has one of the widest ranges of heat pumps in Christchurch. Models include those from Panasonic, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin. Grant recommends filters be kept clean and that outside units be clear of shrubs and bushes with an open space of at least 1.5 metres in front of them.
Full heat pump servicing is also available through Enviro Master.

With heat pumps now set to cooling mode for the warmer weather, Michelle says people need to watch for water leaks caused by blocked drains, which can be a problem if maintenance isn’t up to date.
A full range of heat pump services are available from Enviro Master across Canterbury, including consultations, installations and servicing.
All of the company’s installation and servicing staff are qualified electricians or heating and refrigeration engineers.
A free consultation is always provided before a heat pump is installed, to ensure people receive the heat pump best suited to their needs.
Michelle says if anyone is wondering about their eligibility for a subsidised heat pump, they are welcome to get in touch for details and help with the application process.
