As the Breakers get set for some payback at the NSEC tonight, valuable off-season addition Daryl Corletto has confirmed he will resign with the Aussie NBL champions – if they’ll have him.

There had been speculation Corletto could return home next season to link up with a proposed second Melbourne entry into the league. But he told Fairfax Media he was intent on signing on the dotted line with the Breakers.

The sweet-shooting Aussie who is averaging a valuable 11 points a game said loyalty to the Kiwi club, who came to his rescue this season, left him in no doubt where he wanted to play the rest of his Aussie NBL hoops.

‘‘I’ve already decided I want to stay,’’ said Corletto on the eve of tonight’s NBL rematch against a Wollongong Hawks outfit who stunned the Breakers across the ditch on Saturday.

‘‘It’s just a matter of whether or not they want me . . . I love the way Andrej [Lemanis], Dean [Vickerman] and Judd [Flavell] coach; I love the whole programme here. I’ll be more than happy to finish up my career here.’’

And Corletto, who is hoping to make the Great Britain squad for the Olympics, confirmed his netball-playing wife could join him in making the sporting switch across the Tasman.

Julie Corletto is off contract with the Melbourne Tigers in July and he said the couple would assess her options then.
