Romantic movie favourites shine in memory loss drama

-

Leo (Tatum) and Paige (McAdams) fell in love almost instantly, married quickly and were on track to live happily ever after. However, after a terrible accident, Paige is left in a coma and wakes with no memory of her husband.

Fans of Nicholas Sparks will be thrilled to see leads from The Notebook and Dear John playing opposite one another. Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum shine on the screen as Paige and Leo and bring a spark of beauty to the couple they portray. Mcadams does a wonderful job as a confused Paige, struggling to come to terms with her memory loss and Tatum is equally great as a heartbroken Leo who tries so desperately to have his wife fall in love with him again.

Joining Mcadams and Tatum are veteran actors Sam Neill and Jessica Lange. Both are perfectly cast as Paige’s overbearing parents who use her accident to their advantage, hoping that she will leave her life with Leo. Also making an appearance is Scott Speedman, who some may remember as Ben Convington from the television show Felicity, as Paige’s past love who is keen to rekindle their relationship.

As a fan of co-writer Jason Katims ( Roswell, Friday Night Lights), I was excited to see what he would bring to this story based on true events. Although I’m not entirely sure how much of a contribution he made, it did have a subtle feel of his previous works.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie, but am sad to say it was missing that fire that would make it an amazing film. Perhaps my expectations were too high, as I was hoping to experience the same emotion I felt when watching The Notebook for the first time, but unfortunately was disappointed.
