Man sought after incident at store

- Brooke Gardiner

Queenstown police have once again turned to Facebook in the hope thousands of followers will help them identify a man involved in an assault partly captured on CCTV last month.

Sergeant Blair Duffy said police would like to speak to the man pictured outside the Camp St Night n Day store after an assault complaint was laid about an incident just after 3am on March 23.

The complainant came to police the following day to give his side of the story and said he had been assaulted after he told off the man for urinating outside the store, Mr Duffy said.

‘‘You can’t see [on CCTV footage] what happened before or after the incident . . . we need to get his side of the story.’’

Mr Duffy said the incident highlighted the dangers of people involving themselves in the behaviour of others late at night.

‘‘Don’t interfere . . . if there is an issue call police. You’ve got to be sensible yourself and you are less likely to be so if you are also intoxicated.’’

Police arrested three Queenstown males overnight for breaching bail. A 17-year-old, who failed to present when police went to his address to check on him, was to appear in court yesterday along with an 18-yearold, who also failed to present, and a 26-year-old, who was arrested after he was caught consuming alcohol early yesterday.
