Southland team to defend Salisbury Cup

-

Southland has named a strong women’s team to contest the Salisbury Cup against Otago on April 21 at Queens Park.

The team includes Robyn Pullar, Angela Gerken, Kerry Mariu, Olivia Frost, Fiona Murray, Bronwyn O’Brien, Anne Osment and Danielle Price. It will be captained by Robyn Boniface and the reserve is Helen Baird.

Southland won the southern derby when the two teams met in November, with a convincing 11-5 win at St Clair in Dunedin. With home course advantage, confidence will be high of retaining the cup.

A quick look at the events calendar on Golf Southland’s website (golfsouthland.co.nz) shows there is plenty happening on the local scene.

Tuatapere hosts its revamped two-person ambrose tournament on Sunday, while Greenacres will hold a 9-hole tournament. The Riversdale ladies’ 0-40.4 tournament is on Monday and the vice presidents pennants is on next Saturday. Winton’s monthly greensome will be played on Sunday, April 21, with a 12.30pm teeoff time. There is always something happening, so make sure you support your local club and get involved.

Best of luck to the Southland women’s masters team, who tee off in Feilding tomorrow in pursuit of their fifth consecutive national title. Southland have dominated this tournament in recent years, and locals will be hoping that continues this weekend.
