Southland Vintage Car branch member Colin Tait, in his 1910 Clement Bayard, adds his contribution to getting the most amount of water poured into a radiator at the South Island Easter Rally in Timaru.

The Southland Vintage Car branch won a national trophy in the weekend with a team of vintage cars dating back to 1910.

The club won the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand’s inter-branch Pennzoil Trophy at the annual South Island Easter Rally in Timaru at Easter Weekend.

Club member Glenys McKenzie said teams, competing in vintage cars, took part in a series of field tests to demonstrate driving skill and dexterity in a race against the clock.

The Southland team included the Clement Bayard, a 1930 Chrysler, 1938 Morris 18.6 and a 1961 Morgan.

Ms McKenzie said winning the trophy was a huge honour and the team was ‘‘chuffed to bits’’.

The team competed against all New Zealand teams for the trophy, which was won in the South Island several years ago and had stayed within the island since.

Ms McKenzie said she was proud of the team’s effort and looked forward to defending the title next year in Greymouth.
