Excuses, excuses and more excuses

- TRUDY BURDON RUNNING MUM

It has been a really busy week and fitting everything in as a mum, while trying to keep up my fitness routine, has been difficult.

My husband’s quote on our family planner board this week is, ‘If you really want it, you will find a way – if not, you will find an excuse’. Here are my excuses: – I have been feeling poorly – Nathan (my husband), has been away most of the week.

– Our youngest daughter is turning five and the party is today.

– Our oldest daughter performed in Stage Challenge last night at the Civic Theatre.

– Our two middle daughters injured themselves and are a bit moody and not that helpful.

– Our washing machine broke down, got fixed and then broke down again. It is fixed now, yay!

– I ran out of petrol and forgot to take my phone with me. I had two hungry daughters in the car and two daughters waiting to be picked up outside school on a stormy dark night. It wasn’t an ideal situation. Thank you Pam and Brett from Admiral Court Motel for helping us. Ironically, I am always telling Nathan to make sure petrol is in the car he drives. I won’t be doing that again.

Although the list does not end here or necessarily get any better I won’t go on with it.

All these things are just normal happenings in our busy family life and they require organizing, time and effort.

Sometimes we do things that could have been avoided, sometimes things breakdown and sometimes my husband has to go on trips (not for much longer though, I’ll write about that next week).

At times like this my exercise routine can suffer, but I am grateful that my lack of exercise is not because of something serious that has happened to someone.

Sometimes as a mum life gets really busy, but don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t do all the things you set out to do for the week.

As long as it is not too often, I should be fine.
