Thousands of Southland children can get excited for the annual children’s event of the year, as ILT Kidzone tickets go on sale this week.

The event will return to the James Hargest senior campus in July for the 11th year.

Festival director Sally Hayes said she was enjoying her first year organising the event.

‘‘So far so good, I’m trying to be like a kid again and think and act like a kid. It’s a challenge but I’ve got a good team around me that can answer any questions I have.’’

There would be 170 activities at the 2015 Kidzone and the new 7-metre-high spider web would be a highlight for the children, Hayes said.

‘‘The spider web is all new and is sure to please all those that take on the incredible climbing challenge. It’s going to be great fun for all ages.’’

The stunt jump, which resulted in a 6-year-old boy taken to hospital last year, would not be returning, she said.

Now the countdown to opening day was on, Hayes said she was looking forward to the her first year at the helm of the event.

‘‘I’m looking forward to all the positive things the event creates.’’

Volunteer applications were now open on the Kidzone website and Hayes said they needed at least 150 volunteers a day.

For last year’s sold-out event, 300 people aged 14 and older registered as volunteers.

Eighteen hundred tickets would be available for each day of the event and parents should try to buy the tickets ahead of time, Hayes said.
