Nikolic applies for licence despite ban
The colourful career of Danny Nikolic has taken yet another twist with the jockey applying for a riding licence despite being under suspension until the end of September.
Nikolic, 40, applied to be re-licensed by Racing Victoria but just some time ago withdrew an application to ride trackwork.
Nikolic was under disqualification and then suspension for threatening RVL chief steward Terry Bailey and his family.
Fairfax Media understands that the re-licensing of Nikolic will not be a rubber stamp as a core of the committee have grown tired of repeat offenders being re-licensed.
It seems at odds that Nikolic has chosen not to ride trackwork but has applied for a jockey’s licence to begin riding on October 1.
Controversy is never far away when the multiple Group I-winning jockey Nikolic is around.
Currently stewards are probing the performance of Baron Archer who was defeated at Echuca in March after being heavily laid on Betfair.
Stewards immediately launched an investigation into the $260,000 invested with the betting exchange eclipsing by far the holdings on any other race.
“We are still continuing to take evidence and as far as Baron Archer is concerned we are still looking into every aspect of what happened at Echuca,” Bailey said.
The account used to bet against Baron Archer was in the name of Tania Hyett who is the partner of Nikolic. FAIRFAX
