Bluff to rock in Nepal fundraiser
Bands from throughout New Zealand will rock Bluff for more than seven hours in October to raise money for Nepal earthquake relief.
St Teresa’s School has organised a benefit concert to be held at the Bluff Arena – the new oyster festival site – on October 25. All money raised will be donated to Caritas’ earthquake relief fund.
Southland bands Into The East, Rhythmonyx and Southern Antarctica are already confirmed as part of the line-up.
Oyster festival favourites Th‘ Eastern, from Lyttleton, will be one of the headline acts, along with Wellington band Nudge and The Killer Seas from Queenstown.
Bluff publicity and promotions officer Lindsay Beer said more acts would be announced in the near future.
Despite their young age, the pupils are aware of the impact their concert could have on victims of the earthquake. ‘‘We want to help because we have a home and they don’t,’’ Hannah Brown, 8, said.
Organiser and St Teresa’s teacher Rosi Coyle said the school chose Caritas because ‘‘every cent raised will go directly to Nepal’’.
The concert will begin at noon on October 25, with the last band to start about 7pm.
Two stages will operate during the day and there will be a food stall and a bar. Buses will operate between Invercargill and Bluff.
Tickets are $45 for adults and $10 for children, and are available at www.eventfinda.co.nz or www.trademe.co.nz
The Nepal earthquake struck on April 25 as New Zealand commemorated Anzac Day, killing more than 8800 people, injuring more than 23,000 and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.
It also triggered an avalanche on Mt Everest, which killed at least 19 people on the deadliest day on the mountain. Another avalanche resulted in 250 people being reported missing.
