Kade remains in stable condition
An Invercargill boy seriously injured at school remains stable in Dunedin Hospital.
Kade Phillips, 10, suffered a puncture wound to the side of his head at Sacred Heart School in Invercargill about 8.35am on September 18.
He was playing with another pupil, a 9-year-old boy, at the time.
Kade’s grandfather yesterday said: ‘‘ He just gets very tired. His condition didn’t improve, but it wasn’t slipping either.’’
Kade still lacked any movement down one side of his body, his grandfather said.
‘‘He’s been desperately trying to make it happen.’’
Doctors and family were still working to decide what the next steps for Kade’s recovery were, including when to replace a part of his skull which was removed to allow his brain to swell. Decisions on what happens next, including when Kade would be transferred to Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, would be made in the next few days.
