The Diamond One sparkles

- TAYLER STRONG

The Diamond One was named Otago Horse of the Year at a function on Saturday night.

‘‘She is coming along well in her work but we are just waiting for her winter coat to come out before starting her off again,’’ trainer Claire Anderton said.

The Diamond One, winner of the Group III White Robe Lodge Handicap at Wingatui and Group III Cuddle Stakes at Trentham last season, has not raced since May 2.

She ran fifth in the Stewards’ Handicap (1200m) at first up last November.

She was co-winner with Natuzzi of the Otago award last year. Earlier this month, The Diamond One was named South Island Horse of the Year.

Include, who was accorded the Otago sprinter award, has been sent to Savabeel at the Waikato stud by owners, Wayne and Karen Stewart. The winner of 10 races, including the Listed South Island Breeders’ Stakes at Riccarton, Dunedin and Southland Guineas from 16 starts, she was retired in April after a tendon injury.
