Proudfoot hits top form twice over the weekend

It was a big weekend for Tegan Proudfoot.

Not only did he win the Greenacres senior club championsh­ips, beating Jeremy Hall 6/5, but the next day he shot a course record 64 at Tuatapere in the Handicap Pennants competitio­n.

In other Greenacres club championsh­ips results, Paul James beat Basil McEwing 5/4 to win the Intermedia­te title, Shaun Cowley took out the Junior A section, Steve Harris the Junior B and Tony Whitfield won Junior C.

Lenore Harvey won the Ladies Silver division, defeating Gillian Colhoun 1up, while Joan Smith beat Rhona Millar 1up to win Bronze 1 and Wendy Wahren beat Paula O’Neill 4/2 to win Bronze 2.

The semifinali­sts in the Vice Presidents Pennants have been found – and it’s a battle of Winton versus Greenacres.

Winton 2 will play Greenacres 1 in one semi-final, while Winton 1 will play Greenacres 2 in the other.

Winton 2 finished top qualifier, with just one loss over seven rounds, while just half a point saw Invercargi­ll 2 narrowly miss out on a place in the semi-finals.

The last regular round played out at Winton over the weekend, with Greenacres 2 defeating Invercargi­ll 1, 5-1, Invercargi­ll 2 beating Queens Park 4 – 1 and Winton 1 beating Winton 2, 3 – 2 in the morning rounds. In the afternoon session Invercargi­ll 2 beat Invercargi­ll 1, 3

– 2 Greenacres 2 beat Greenacres 1, 4-2 and Winton 2 comfortabl­y defeated Queens Park 6-0.

Waikaka has once again retained the Gilmour Rosebowl, defeating challenger­s Lumsden 4-1 this week.

Results were (Waikaka names first): Adie Crispin lost to Jody Drysdale 6/4, Dianne Cleland beat Liz Senior 2/1, Janis Steel beat Lois Mitchell 2/1, Monica Hansen beat Maree Melrose 2/1 and Sue Stewart beat Maureen Stewart 7/5.

Waikaka’s next challenge will be from Winton next month.

Queens Park Golf Club is holding a two person ambrose tournament on Anzac Day. It is open to men, women or mixed teams, and has a 12.01 start time. Contact the club for more informatio­n.

The Invercargi­ll Golf Club is also holding an Anzac Day tournament.

It has separate grades for men and women, is an individual stableford format, tees off at 12noon and – to keep it interestin­g – there are some twists to be advised on the day.
