Business park ‘positive’ for economy
Several constructions in the business park in Bill Richardson Drive are taking shape, despite winter conditions.
A building on the corner of Fox St and Bill Richardson Drive looks to be finished within the next six weeks.
Ultraspec Building Systems director Ruary O’Toole said the building was tracking well, despite weather interruptions.
Construction had been ongoing for about four months and looked to be complete in a month, he said.
The building was to be leased out.
The business park under development by Russell Cunningham Properties, formerly the Invercargill Showgrounds, has FMG Insurance, RD1 and Farmlands among its tenants.
This month the owners of The Batch cafe, on Spey St, announced they will open another cafe to be called Industry on Arena Ave at the business park.
Proposed retail and supermarket sites were part of the long-term plan for the area.
Russell Cunningham Properties general manager Vicki Corkill said Progressive Engineering Southland had completed their building and Farmlands was under way.
Corkill said further construction would soon be under way to the north side of the Commercial Vehicle Centre.
A supermarket and potential retailers for the business were not confirmed.
‘‘We’re obviously very excited about the new cafe coming, so we’re very happy.’’
The development of the park was ‘‘exciting’’ and the amount of development was positive for the city, Corkill said.
‘‘There’s a lot of construction in the business park at the moment, which will have a great economic impact on Invercargill as a whole.
‘‘It’s all positive for Invercargill.’’ park
