A further six people charged with murder
A further six people have been charged with murder in relation to the death of a 19-year-old man in Invercargill on Wednesday.
The three women and three men appeared before Judge John BrandtsGiesen in the Youth Court in Invercargill yesterday.
No pleas were entered and all were remanded in custody, to reappear in the High Court via audio-visual link on June 27.
The three women are aged 16, 23 and 18. The three men are aged 19, 21, and 18. The 18-year-old man is also charged with driving while disqualified on Wednesday.
The judge ordered interim suppression of the names of the accused, and of the dead man’s name.
On Thursday, a 20-year-old man charged with murder appeared in the Invercargill District Court.
He was remanded in custody until June 27, when he is to appear in the High Court.
Police said the seven people arrested were all known to the dead man and police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
They are accused of killing the man at ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill about 11pm on Wednesday.
Area commander Inspector Joel Lamb said he believed it was an isolated incident.
Forensic staff were carrying out a scene examination at a residential property in Invercargill yesterday as part of the investigation.
Police declined to give further details of how the man died because the case was before the court.
