Jimmy Barnes to return to NZ
Jimmy Barnes’ anticipated new memoir Working Class Man will be accompanied by a fourdate New Zealand tour in May next year. Working Class Man: An Evening of Stories and Songs will be the sequel to the live show the Oz rocker performed alongside his first bestselling book, Working Class Boy.
This new tour will see Barnes telling his adult life story and singing stripped back versions of songs that have shaped his journey. It also promised to reveal the excesses of Australia’s greatest rock ‘n roll story.
Barnes will play next year in Christchurch on Tuesday, May 8, Wellington on Thursday, May 10, Auckland on Friday, May 11 and the tour wraps up in Hamilton on Saturday May 12.
Barnes’ longtime friend and label owner Michael Gudinski said he is proud of everything Barnes has achieved, both solo and with Cold Chisel.
‘‘He’s had more number one albums than any other Australian artist. He’s actually sold more albums solo than with Chisel, which is a remarkable stat.
‘‘He’s a two-time ARIA Hall of Famer. Hell, he’s even a bestselling author. ‘But Jimmy has never forgotten his working-class roots. The things he still values most are honesty, loyalty, friendship and family’’
Tickets for all shows will go on sale at midday on Tuesday, October 24 from jimmybarnes.com.
To coincide with the book of the same name, a limited edition, commemorative version of the greatest Australian rock album, For The Working Class Man will be released on November 3 in a deluxe, double-disc package.
