Double delight for Demons
Both Demons teams won their games in Southland’s Major League softball action at Surrey Park on Saturday in Invercargill.
The Demons Red team only just pipped the Panthers 2-1, and the Demon Blues team had a slightly better margin, winning 7-1 against Tigers.
Panthers scored early in the first game after Kaemyn Smith bunted safely, Sam Maher walked to Base, Caleb Fetolofai also dropped a safe bunt to load the bases.
When Wade McSoriley also got a free ride to first base, this forced Smith home from third base to score the run.
It took until the bottom of the second for Demons to score when Josh Kahukura reached base on a fielders choice, was pushed around on a bunt from Dylan Richardson, Kieran O’Connor was walked, and the run was scored when Brad Perry also picked out the walk to score Kahukura.
Demons second run was scored by Mathew Telfer in the bottom of the third.
Batting for Demons were Telfer, Richardson, O’Connor (1), and for Panthers, Smith (2) Fetolofai (1).
Demons Blue went well with the bat, recording 11 hits to four.
Top of the list was shared by Keegan Hilhorst and Jimmy Affleck with three hits apiece, with Hilhorst clearing the outfield fence with one of his hits for an automatic home run.
Michael Sinclair hit a triple, and Hilhorst, Affleck and Hunter Barlow recorded doubles. Other Demons batter were Tim Campbell (2) Sinclair, Barlow and Michael Tiplady (1).
