Sky Television is playing down the effects of Spark potentially snapping up rights to English Premier League broadcasts. It is understood Spark is in the running to secure the local rights to show EPL matches from the season beginning in August 2019. However, Spark is not commenting and industry sources said it might be too soon for any deal to be in the bag. Rights to EPL matches are currently held by Qatar-based Bein Sports, a spin-off of Al Jazeera. Sky has an arrangement to offer Bein’s service on two Sky channels as a special add-on, costing $16.10 a month.
