Property group seeks tenants

- Ben Bootsma

A property group says it is seeking tenants for its building in Invercargill, which is already occupied by nationwide retail chain Farmers.

Thompson Property Group managing director Gaire Thompson said it was seeking about 15 individual stores to lease to in the space in the future.

The group is the owner of the building at 150 Dee St.

It is unclear what Farmers plans might be in the short or long-term.

The concept for the Dee St building is to attract local and national brand businesses, he said.

‘‘What we’d like to do is to talk to tenants from around the city, we think it would make a great mall.’’

The group wanted to support businesses that were now forced to look for alternative premises ahead of new developments planned for the inner city.

‘‘[we] want to make sure businesses are busy, thriving and under cover,’’ Thompson said.

He would not comment on an exact cost or timeframe for the redevelopment of the building.

‘‘It’s not going to be a cheap exercise. ‘‘We’ve got to look after our tenants.’’ Pascoe Properties Ltd owns several companies throughout New Zealand which own malls and commercial buildings and have owned the current Dee St building since 2010.

Farmers NZ media communications and the Farmers NZ national properties manager did not return calls when contacted yesterday.

‘‘What we’d like to do is to talk to tenants from around the city, we think it would make a great mall.’’
