New Zealand world No 8 Paul Coll became the first male Kiwi since the 1990s to reach the semifinals of a major PSA Tour event after he claimed a huge 3-2 win over world No 3 Tarek Momen at the US Open Squash Championships. Coll now meets world No 1 Mohamed El Shorbagy today. They have played twice previously, the Egyptian winning both times, including the quarterfinals of the British Open earlier this year. Coll and Momen played a 96-minute epic in Philadelphia with Coll twice recovering from a game down to force a decider. Coll and Momen both squandered match balls until a no let was given against Momen on the second of Coll’s match balls to win 6-11 11-8 5-11 11-7 13-11.

Usman Khawaja batted almost nine hours, scoring 141 runs from 302 balls to help salvage a draw in Dubai.
