Macron aide wants to buy Marie-Antoinette’s jewels

An adviser to President Macron has urged the French state to buy jewellery that belonged to Marie-Antoinette and is about to be sold in Geneva. Stephane Bern, a television presenter who was appointed by Macron to raise funds for the national heritage, has asked the culture ministry and the Louvre to return to France the nine items, including a diamond and pearl pendanttha­t were among the queen’s favourite jewellery. Sotheby’s is selling the set in a collection from the Bourbon-Parma family.
