President’s welcome

- Nicky Wallace, President Wyndham A & P Society

Show Day is almost here, with this year being the 138th annual Wyndham A&P Show. A long-held tradition of an entertaining day out, where the country comes to town, visitors will see many examples of productive, well-presented stock.

I invite you to join us on Saturday, December 1 for a fun, family-oriented day at the Show.

We are thrilled to be hosting Craig Smith, author of ’The Wonky Donkey’ who will perform two fun and exciting, interactive shows at the marquee. Make sure to bring along your copy of his book for him to sign.

A highlight of the day is certain to be our new Novelty Pig/ Handler class where we will see whose porker will reign supreme, this is guaranteed to be a good laugh! Also new to our programme this year, is a Trout fishing competition for all ages, in conjunction with the Wyndham Angling Club. Weigh-in will be at the main pavilion between 11am-12 Noon.

Make sure you take a look at the Cowboy Challenge too, another new equestrian event on our programme.

We have our Summer Flower Show, where you can enter flowers, vegetables, baking, photography, and all manner of crafts and childrens classes. Be sure to take a look at our craft and market stalls, and get a start on your Christmas shopping.

Visit our licenced social area where you can enjoy refreshments while you catch up with friends, and the Edendale Home & School Committee will be offering a two course lunch in the main pavilion. There will be plenty of free activities for the children, including petting zoo, magician shows, scavenger hunt, and our Kids Big Dig.

Naturally we are disappointed that, due to the mycoplasma bovis outbreak, we are unable to offer cattle classes in 2018, but we are fortunate to be able to offer calves from one farm to keen young people to experience preparing, bonding and handling a calf for a ’show’ experience in our Junior Cattle Handling event.

(All details on classes and competitions available at showday.online)

We are indebted to our generous sponsors, and I thank them for the massive contribution they make, please help us by supporting them as they make our Show possible.

I am honoured to be part of such a hard-working and dedicated committee, who all contribute so much towards bringing you this community event. Do come along and enjoy a great day out with us.
