New carv­ings in­stalled

Twelve carved poupou ma­rine re­serve mark­ers have been in­stalled in Doubt­ful Sound. Each were orig­i­nally placed in Charles Sound in 2014 and now stand guard in the fiord re­plac­ing the tra­di­tional white tri­an­gle ma­rine mark­ers. The poupou are part of a col­lab­o­ra­tive pro­ject be­tween the Fiord­land Ma­rine Guardians, Depart­ment of Con­ser­va­tion and lo­cal iwi from Te Ru¯ naga o O¯ raka Aparima. They were de­signed and carved by Bubba Thomp­son.
