Fabulous day out for all the family to enjoy

-

Celebrate the onset of Christmas in style with Winton’s annual Open Day this Saturday, November 19 from 10am to 4pm.

A great family-friendly community day out on Winton’s event calendar, the Open Day presents a fabulous opportunity for family and friends of all ages to meet, mingle and enjoy a range of activities and refreshments.

Winton Business Association organiser Maria Scammell says they will create a festive spin on the day with their Marketeers Craft and Produce Markets, and a range of the town’s businesses have also joining in the fun, opening for customers from 10am until 4pm.

‘‘There will be a Fire Station demonstration at 11am beside the Fire Station, and the annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic, which is always successful, will start at 12 pm to 1 pm at Weka Preschool on Park Street.’’

The refurbished library will be open for their Book Sale from 10am to 3pm, and the Police Station display/presentation and Swimming Pool will also be open from 2 - 5 pm.

Further afield you will find the bouncy castles (Anzac Oval), water balls, an opportunity to catch up with Sparks the clown, plus there will be an opportunity for children to get their photo taken with Santa in the Kids Hub Anglian Church Hall throughout the day.

For the car and motorcycle enthusiasts there will be a display on the Main St in addition to a line-up of vintage machinery behind Anzac Oval.

Those keen on a little adventure will have the opportunity to have a go at driving a digger between 10 am – 1.30 pm & 2.30pm – 4 pm (near Anzac oval), and there will be a host of live street entertainment and music to enjoy on the streetside.

And for a little bit more fun, featuring the jolly red man, the Parade starts at 2.30pm with anyone interested in participating asked to assemble by the Top Pub at 2pm.

The parade will be led by the Pipe Band and will have a colourful array of floats with a trophy for the best float awarded following the parade.

Winton celebrities, a fire engine, Santa, classic cars and members of local clubs will also form part of the parade.

Popular on the entertainment schedule and making a return this year, is the wood chopping. This will be held near the Middle Pub on the street.

There will be no need for visitors to go hungry either, with several local cafes open, the local Lions hosting a barbecue, and a range of additional eateries, including Yo’s, the donut caravan and a coffee kart available for food and beverage purchases.

The children’s colouring competition, sponsored by AWS Legal. Will have great prizes to be won. All entries will be on display at 270A Great North Road, Winton on Open Day.

There will also be plenty of car parking available for visitors at the oval, simply park up in the centre of town and wander the Open Day at your leisure.

As there will be a variety of activities on the road, north bound traffic on the main road from Bute Street to Winton Motorcycles will be closed throughout the day.

Mark the date in your diary and head on out to the Winton Open Day this Saturday, for a fun-filled day before the frantic pace of the Christmas season really sets in.
