Four new stores in retail precinct

- Evan Harding

Another four retail stores have opened in the multi-million-dollar Invercargill Central development on Monday, including one first-timer to the city.

The Lovisa jewellery store makes its first appearance in Invercargill, and is located beside women’s clothing retailer Max and men’s wear retailer Barkers, both opening in the same mall space after a time away from the city. Across the hallway is Hallensteins Brothers which has relocated from Esk St.

The four new stores bring the total opened in the development so far to 18.

Lovisa jewellery store Invercargill and Dunedin regional manager Hayley Oliver said it was exciting to be part of an evolving Invercargill CBD. ‘‘Walking into a brand new mall, it’s so sparkly and shiny and you just want to look around and shop. I can’t wait to see the rest of it open.’’

Keri Mahia, store manager for both Max and Barkers, said it was good to open before Christmas.

Invercargill Central marketing manager Rebecca Sheppard said additional stores still to open in the development before Christmas will be Starbucks, The Cosmetic Clinic, ReBurger, Wing Wing [Korean street food], Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza, Platypus (shoes), Unichem Pharmacy, Skechers (shoes), and Reading Cinemas will be accessible from inside the mall.

In the new year Food Central, a food court style dining option accessible from Tay St will be opening as part of the third stage of the development.

And confirmed retailers to open next year include Postie, One NZ (Vodafone), Luxurious Spa & Nails, Flawless Face and Beauty, Banh Mi (Vietnamese street food), Bubble Tea, a sushi and noodle house, Majestic Tea Bar, Techpro, Modern Men’s Barber along with Indian, Kebabs and Souvlakis.

The entire development was expected to be completed in March next year, Sheppard said.
