Six60 vibes hit Southland on Grassroots Tour

- Brayden Lindsay

Southlanders are in for a treat over the next week as Kiwi band Six60 brings its Grassroots Tour south.

The tour has seen Six60 travelling across the country, performing in intimate venues, including Invercargill’s Civic Theatre tomorrow, and showcasing hits in a stripped-back acoustic format.

In keeping with the tour’s grassroots spirit, a miniature replica of the flat where the band members once lived together in Dunedin will accompany Six60 to all 24 performances, parked up at a Four Square in each town visited.

Concert tickets are long gone but people might be able to check out the tiny house at a Four Square near them, snap some photos and grab some exclusive merchandise.

The tiny house will be at Four Square Ascot tomorrow.

Owner-operators Tracey and Graeme Neilson said the store was buzzing with excitement for the Grassroots Tour.

“It’s a rare privilege to be at the heart of an event like this. The whole team is stoked to be able to do something unique and special for the Invercargill community,” Tracey said.

“We’ll be running a bunch of $6.60 deals, as well as blasting Six60’s biggest hits through our loudspeakers.

“If you’re an Invercargill Six60 fan, come through on the 7th. It’s going to be heaps of fun.”

The band was also playing in Gore on Wednesday, ending the Grassroots Tour of NZ with a show on Stewart Island on May 14. The miniature house is in Bluff from May 12 to 14.

The tour was a timely celebration for the supermarket chain ,which later this year would celebrate its 100th birthday.

The Southland Times has a handful of exclusive Four Square/Six60 T-shirts to give away.
