Festival fun: Whitestone Winter Folk Festival, at Gunns Camp, Waimate. Whitestone is a great occasion for performers of all ages and skills. Key events throughout the festival include the Saturday night barn dance, and the Sunday night final concert.
Whodunnit: Join the fun, intrigue and drama at Julie Neill’s Dance Academy, with the Murder Mystery Theme Dance on from 6.30pm at the studio, 65 Church St, Timaru.
Star dance: Swing Under The Stars at the Lake Tekapo Community Hall, Aorangi Cres from 7.30pm until midnight, featuring the Christchurch Garden City Big Band. Supper and dance. Tickets $50. Fundraiser for Lake Tekapo School.
Sunshine: Observing the sun up close with special telescopes. This is an event supported by Geraldine Observatory and South Canterbury Astronomers Group. Join them at the Geraldine Village Green, main street Geraldine from 10am-2pm.
QB14: Twizel is celebrating two important birthdays this year, the 30th anniversary of the town being founded and the 45th of the start of the Waitaki Hydro project.

Wheely nice: All British Vehicle Day display, at Caroline Bay Car Park between 9.30am10.30am. Organised by South Canterbury Vintage Car Club.
Clickety-clack: Pleasant Point Railway Steaming Day is on at the Pleasant Point Railway Station 10.30am till 4pm. Step back in time as you board the AB 699 steam train. Adults $10, Children $5, Family $30.
Get stuck in: Second Annual Custard Square Off, Legends Cafe, 2pm-6pm. The winner is the first to eat five custard squares. Entrants need to gather a minimum of $50 in sponsorship, all profits donated to the Pleasant Point Lions Club.
