Art auction to raise funds

-

Art is serving not just a cultural purpose but a material purpose as well.

For 17 Mackenzie College pupils and two past pupils ranging from Year 7 to Year 13, art created by them will be sold at a fundraising auction to help raise funds for the purchase of camera gear for the arts department and outdoor furniture for the school.

Auction organiser Maryann Darmody said the pieces of art will be on different mediums.

‘‘The art work is created by students, staff, parents, people associated with the school, and some established artists. It is 50/50 photography and painting but there will be prints as well. The pieces are very high quality.’’

A number of artworks has already been received including contributions from Christchurchbased artist Nathanael Provis, Dunedin printmaker Manu Berry and South Canterbury artists Sally Hope, Ben Woolcombe and Julie Greig.

The auction opens for browsing at 6pm tomorrow, with bidding from 7pm. Entry is a gold coin donation on the night.
