Inmates freed in attack
Gunmen attacked Haiti’s main prison from inside and outside yesterday, freeing an undetermined number of inmates, including a member of a prominent family who faces kidnapping charges. A police spokesman said the raid appeared to be aimed at freeing businessman Clifford Brandt, who has been imprisoned since 2012 on charges of kidnapping at least two children. The government was offering a reward of about US$25,000 (NZ$30,000) for information leading to Brandt’s recapture.
