Hadlow to Harbour boosts charities

- LEWIS TAYLOR

Five South Canterbury charities have each been given a financial boost following this year’s Hadlow to Harbour Fun Run.

The Timaru North Rotary Club raised $12,500 from the event and donations from those funds were given to the charities by the club last week.

The recipients included Hospice South Canterbury, the Life Education Trust, and Alzheimer’s South Canterbury, with the funds to be spent on local people in need of support. Each organisation involved received $1500.

South Canterbury Stroke Club volunteer co-ordinator Ethel Elliotte said the club would use the money it received to help run a variety of programmes for stroke victims in South Canterbury.

Heart Foundation advocate Marthy Cloake said her organisation had been involved with the fun run for 21 years.

It uses funds to support people with heart disease and provide resources for heart disease victims in the community, Cloake said.

‘‘We are very, very grateful for the support of the Timaru North Rotary Club over all these years,’’ she said.

YMCA South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury general manager Keith Shaw said a number of organisations received donations from a magic show the Rotary club hosts each December. The YMCA, St Vincent De Paul Society and Riding For The Disabled were recipients of funding from the magic show.
