A man has been charged with aggravated robbery of a St Andrews dairy.

Police said the Friday afternoon incident at the St Andrews Store Milk Bar Dairy allegedly involved a knife.

A 21-year-old Timaru man was arrested in Timaru not long after the incident and appeared in the Timaru District Court on Saturday on a charge of aggravated robbery. He was remanded in custody.

Police would not say what items were taken as the investigation was ongoing.

The owners of the dairy have declined to comment.

Police are also seeking anyone who witnessed a red BMW car with no licence plates in the St Andrews area between 4pm and 5.30pm on Friday as they believe the vehicle was related to the robbery.

They do not believe the car was stolen.

The robbery was part of a busy weekend for South Canterbury police with several properties in rural areas being hit with thefts. ❚ A farm property in the Waimate district was burgled on Friday and a mower and several power tools were taken. ❚ A burglary was reported at a Levels property on Saturday. The house was ransacked, with a trailer, bike and car among the property taken. The car and other stolen items were retrieved later that day in Ashburton. ❚ In the St Andrews area, a silver ute is being sought in connection with the theft of a ride-on lawn mower and a trailer on Friday around 2pm.
