Twizel finally gets Christmas market

- Alice Geary

A new family-friendly Christmas market is coming to Twizel this year with local business owner and Mackenzie District councillor Emily Bradbury calling for talented stallholders to take part.

‘‘Most small communities run Christmas markets around us, like Tekapo and Kurow, so it is about time Twizel did too,’’ Bradbury, who owns Twizel Four Square, said.

‘‘I did a shoppers’ night last year and it was really well received so I am going to up-theante this year and add in market stalls as well as a Christmas party for the local kids, as there is nothing in place here for them all to enjoy.’’

Twizel previously hosted an annual Mistletoe Market complete with Santa parade but over time it became the Upcycle Market

which takes place this year on Saturday.

‘‘That is more for adults so this is a nice offering targeted more at young families, and everyone in between, as an opportunity to get together.’’

Bradbury said there has already been a lot of interest from local artisan producers wanting to host stalls, which will be run through her business because of ‘‘amazing supplier support’’. ‘‘All the kids can leave with a treat or two from Santa and his handy elf.

‘‘There is, of course, going to be professional photographers, local music and plenty of entertainment so if the weather plays its part we should see this the start of something great within our wonderful town.’’

The Twizel Christmas Market will be held in the marketplace on December 7.
