Carter’s jersey in demand

-

Dan Carter is auctioning one of his prized All Blacks jerseys to help his old Southbridge club battle back from the financial hit of the Covid-19 crisis. Carter has placed the jersey he wore in his 70th test against the Springboks at Eden Park in 2010 up for bids on Trade Me. It’s the first time he has parted with one of his jerseys for a cause and in just over a day it reached more than $21,000. The auction closes on June 25. Carter started playing at Southbridge at the age of five and went on to play 112 tests for the All Blacks, winning two World Cups. ‘‘I don’t know what my little town of Southbridge would be like without the rugby club,’’ Carter said on Seven Sharp.

The pilot of a helicopter carrying retired basketball star Kobe Bryant may have become disoriented in clouds as the craft abruptly turned and dove to the ground near Los Angeles earlier this year, killing all aboard, investigators said. A preliminary analysis of the final moments of the flight released by the National Transportation Safety Board yesterday found the pilot may have ‘‘misperceived’’ whether the nose was pointed up or down and how the craft had become tilted sharply to the left. During the final high-speed descent, the pilot told air traffic controllers that they were ‘‘climbing to 4000’’ feet when they were actually falling, the NTSB said. The new information doesn’t conclude what caused the January 26 crash. Bryant, the legendary LA Lakers guard, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna and seven others died in the impact.
