Mini golf champs will go to NZ final

- Esther Ashby-Coventry

Two mini golf courses are partnering for the South Canterbury Mini Golf Championships.

Temuka Muka Putt lessee Andrina Stoddart and Carl Black, owner of the Shearer’s Quarters at Seadown, are organising a day-long event at both courses on February 8, the Mondayised Waitangi Day holiday.

The field is limited to 24 teams of four that are expected to take about five hours to complete the challenge of playing both courses.

Each team will have a marshal ‘‘to keep them honest’’, Black said.

He said there would be two divisions – 10 to 15 year-olds and 16 and over. There will be no handicaps.

‘‘Mini golf is a great leveller. Everyone gets a fair chance, you don’t need to be a super athlete to win,’’ he said.

The winner, will be the best scorer over the two courses and represent South Canterbury in the 2021 New Zealand Mini Golf Champs in Auckland, Black said.

The winner will also receive a trophy, be flown to Auckland, with free accommodation, given a South Canterbury representative jacket, and $300 worth of vouchers.

Funds raised will be donated to the Temuka Museum Restoration Trust.

Registrations are open now until January 20 on scminigolfchamps.co. nz
