Trustees needed
Nominations for trustees for Geraldine High School and Carew Peel Forest School are now open. The two schools have had a combined board of trustees since 2001, following a Ministry of Education initiative to combine school boards, as a way of sharing expertise. Since then both schools’ rolls had increased 20 per cent and 35 per cent respectively and functioned totally independent of each other except for the governance of the board. A public meeting was held last year to discuss the potential split, with a community consultation survey also distributed to gain feedback on the idea. Trustees are now being sought for the separate boards, with people being urged to nominate themselves, or nominate another parent, or community member. Nominations close on May 26.
