Traps removed

Leg traps on the Fairlie to Kimbell track were removed by Mackenzie District Council staff yesterday. A council spokesperson said the traps ‘‘appear to be leg hold traps, rather than the old-style nasty ‘gin’ traps, and seem to be regarded as humane and commonly used by fur trappers. However, council does not deem them suitable for use on a public track used by dogs and children’’.
