Trampolinist vows to give Greens back their bounce
Annalena Baerbock, who was confirmed yesterday as the Greens’ candidate for German chancellor in September’s general election, attempted to give her party back its bounce after seeing off attempts by activists to insert radical policies into the party’s manifesto. ‘‘The wind is turning this summer after the winter of pandemic,’’ Baerbock, 40, wearing a bright red dress, told the Greens’ conference. The former trampolinist vowed to reconcile the needs of industry and the environment, replacing the ‘‘social-market economy’’, , with a ‘‘socialecological market economy’’.
