Warriors look to offload troubled prop

- David Long

Kane Evans is likely to have played his final game for the Warriors, with a move to the Super League on the cards.

The 29-year-old is signed to the Warriors for 2022, but had a tumultuous first season with the club, which culminated in him picking up a sixgame suspension for throwing punches in the 44-0 defeat in the final game of the year, against the Titans.

The Warriors are now looking to offload Evans, with the prop also willing to go, wanting to have a fresh start somewhere else.

There would be little interest among other NRL clubs in Evans, not only because of his poor disciplinary record and that he’d have to sit out the first quarter of next season, but also because his form wasn’t at the level it was expected to be at in 2021.

In all, because of injuries and suspensions, Evans played only 14 games last season and started in just five.

As well as throwing punches in the Titans game and in the fixture against the Sharks, Evans also got into hot water for writing ‘‘fold some c…’’ on his wrist tape for the round 18 game against the Panthers, for which he was fined $5000.

So a switch to the Super League is a more likely proposition and he’s being shopped around to several clubs to see if they’d be interested in picking him up.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are expecting to find out in the next couple of days whether Ash Taylor has agreed to join them. The five-eighth, who was on $1 million a season at the Titans, is without a club for next year.

The Warriors are believed to have offered him around a quarter of that money to sign a one-year deal and an answer is expected soon. There are other clubs interested in Taylor, including the Raiders.
