The Government by introducin­g subsidies on petrol prices and allowing the closing Marsden Point refinery, where we could generate much of our own fuel needs, has found its dominoes of decisions falling one on to the other.

The solution to this conundrum is revealed by Energy and Resources Minister Megan Woods (The Timaru Herald, October 10) under the heading ‘‘Government agency could set petrol prices’’. That means, step back, take away the subsidy on petrol in January when it is due to run out and blame
