Day long power outage

-

Transpower, owner and operator of the National Grid is planning to cut power in Lake Tekapo, Mt Cook Village, and surrounding areas on Thursday, from 7:30am-7pm. Alpine Energy, on their social media page said the outage is due to scheduled maintenance at the Tekapo Substation. AE said those affected by the outage should have received a notice. ‘‘Parts of the Tekapo Central Business District will have electricity during the outage, through generators we’ve provided, however they will experience a momentary interruption during the beginning and/or the end of the maintenance work,’’ AE said. Power may be restored earlier and should be treated as live at all times. AE added those reliant on electricity for medical support equipment should contact their medical provider for advice, turn off all electronic appliances at the wall (microwaves, TV’s, DVD players, computers, modems etc.), and store enough water from storage tanks before the power goes off. ‘‘If you are on shift work, fill up your petrol tank the night before. Remember pumps and eftpos won’t work.’’
