Man stays in custody
A 32-year-old man charged with the murder of Anaru Moana, who went missing from Waimate nearly a year ago, will have his name kept secret for now. The man appeared via video-link in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder, as well as additional charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, and possession of methamphetamine for supply. Court documents allege Moana, 37, was killed in Waimate on December 20. The wounding and kidnapping charges relate to a separate incident involving another victim that took place on October 7 last year in Oamaru. Judge David Robinson granted the defendant interim name suppression while his case is being transferred to the High Court at Timaru. A second man charged with murder appeared in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday.
