Turning Point one of many on display

-

Sandie Davies is a Timarubased artist and one of the participants in the 2022 Alpine Energy Art Awards and Annual South Canterbury Art Society Exhibition.

Her work Turning Point is being exhibited alongside 180 other artworks in this exhibition showcasing some of the region’s best artists.

Davies has been painting since she was 14 years old and attended Timaru Polytechnic in the 1990s, studying fine arts. She has received several awards for her artwork, and in 2001, she was the Scotch Oakburn College artist-inresidence in Launceston, Tasmania.

Turning Point is an example of Davies’ recent work—an abstract landscape in the style she has been honing for the past few years after working previously in a more figurative and representational style.

Davies describes herself as an ‘‘image maker’’ and ideas from design influence her practice strongly. Principles around the use of colour and the creation of patterns form the basis of her work. These then merge with the universal forms and geographies found in nature.

In Turning Point, archways and other shapes create a scene reminiscent of a landscape with its horizon line, mountain shapes and roadways.

Turning Point is on display at the Aigantighe Art Gallery until December 11.
