House with ‘free Tesla’ gets international interest

- Ryan Anderson

An Auckland property owner who threw in a Tesla as a way to entice buyers says they have received international interest and hundreds of phone calls.

The house – a seven bedroom, five bathroom property – has been on the market for seven weeks, but the owner threw in the offer of a new car last week due to market pressures.

Amid a market downturn, the owners of 22 Dungloe Avenue, Flat Bush, had to drop the price and do something to stand out from the other 400+ listings in Flat Bush, Barfoot & Thompson residential sales agent Kapil Rana said.

Almost a week since sweetening the deal, sales agent Prince Kapoor said interest had spiked dramatically. ‘‘It’s unbelievable.’’

The team had received hundreds of inquiries, ranging from as far as Spain and the United States.

In Flat Bush the trend was for private tours through the house and normally almost nobody shows up to open homes, he said, but over the weekend they showed seven groups around the property. ‘‘Previous open homes with this house we haven’t had anyone.’’

One group that was shown through was talking seriously about their finances and sorting out a property broker, Kapoor said.

Interested parties were to be contacted yesterday to hear about offers, he said.

The owners were looking in the range of $1.8 million and stressed that the price of the Tesla had not been added on to the total – it would come as a bonus.

The Tesla is a Model Y, which retails for $78,243 and comes in five different colours.

After purchasing the property, the new owner would get to pick the car colour, and it will then be ordered and shipped from Tesla.

The house has a granny flat on the ground floor, with two bedrooms, a living area and a separate entrance. The ground floor also has the main family and dining area, with a full size kitchen. Upstairs houses the other five bedrooms, three of which come with ensuites, while the other two share a bathroom.
