Search for missing boy suspended

-

Police have formally suspended the search for 10-year-old Ryder Ferregel more than two weeks after he went missing in a boating incident on Manukau Harbour in Auckland. Ryder’s mother, 39-year-old Gemma Ferregel, died when the boat the pair were on capsized on November 6. She was one of five on the boat at the time of the accident. Two men swam to shore and another man was airlifted out of the water by a rescue helicopter. Despite an extensive search effort by family, friends and the police, there was no sign of Ryder 17 days after the tragedy. More than $75,000 was raised by a Givealittle page that was launched by a friend of the family to keep the search ‘‘alive’’. The Givealittle page said all money raised would go towards funding the search for the family’s ‘‘beautiful and adventurous’’ Ryder.
