Sally Dynevor from Coronation Street

Coronation Street’s Sally Webster is convinced that her wedding to Tim Metcalfe will still go ahead, despite her passionate embrace with ex-husband Kevin. But Tim is just as adamant that their relationship is over. So what will happen now?

-

Against all expectations, snobby Sally Webster has fallen madly in love with window cleaner Tim Metcalfe on Coronation Street and wants to marry him.

But a foolhardy kiss with her ex-husband Kevin looks like it may have jeopardised Sally’s dream wedding plans.

It seemed just a matter of time before Tim found out about the illicit kiss and now he is adamant the wedding is off. But Sally is just as determined that she will be Tim’s bride and will be there at the altar for him on their big day.

“Sally persistently tells Tim that she will be at the wedding,” says Sally Dynevor, who plays the aspirational Sally Webster.

“She will be turning up and wants him to as well. She repeatedly tells him she loves him and that she’s so sorry. She tries everything to get him to go but he can’t agree and he’s really awful to her.”

But no matter what Tim says, Sally blindly marches on with all the wedding preparations.

“Sally really loves Tim and this (the kiss with Kevin) has made her realise just how much,” says Sally. “She’s convinced he will forgive her. It was nothing. It wasn’t even a proper

kiss. So Sally is sure he will be able to come round. “Tim’s favourite film is Field

Of Dreams and there is a quote from it that says ‘If you build it, he will come’ and Sally thinks that as this is his favourite film, and if she believes in them enough and believes that he will be there, then he will be.”

Tim can be stubborn at times and once he makes up his mind he usually sticks to it. He has principles, which Sally admires, but in this case she hopes he will relent.

“Tim is a good man,” says Sally. “He’s got morals and everything is quite simple for him. So the fact of the matter is that Sally has betrayed him with his best friend.

“There are a few factors that Tim can’t move past. I think he thinks if Sally has done it once then she might do it again.

“Tim can’t understand how Sally could do that to him. He’s really, really sad and he can’t trust her any more.”

Even on the wedding day, Sally is still in denial and is deluding herself that everything will be fine.

“Sally is insistent that the wedding is very much on and that Tim will be there,” says Sally.

“Sophie asks her mum what she thinks she’s doing and Rita is also really worried about her as she’s completely in denial.”

Notably, Sally, 53, has already married a man called Tim in real life. In 1995 she wed Tim Dynevor and together they have had three children – Phoebe, Samuel and Harriet. However, unlike on Coro, the real Sally has been married only once.

Sally Dynevor really hopes – despite all signs to the contrary – that Tim and Sally end up together long term, not only

because she thinks the

characters are well suited but she loves working with Joe Duttine, who plays Tim.

Coro fans in Britain seemed to like them as a couple as well.

“Joe and I have such a laugh together doing our scenes,” Sally says. “I wonder if maybe that just comes through (to viewers) and you can see we’ve spent an hour laughing our heads off.

“Sometimes when I read a scene it doesn’t seem at all funny, then I get with Joe and something just happens. It’s weird the way chemistry works. I would never have thought when Sally and Tim were first put together that they would work so well but it just does.

“The fact that there’s three of them in the relationship also works. It’s not just Sally and Tim. Kevin and Tim are also very funny together. I love them together. They’re great. “Sally’s often complaining that Tim’s on the phone to Kevin more than he is to her. It’s so much fun to play ... It’s a whole new chapter for me and I’m thrilled.” But even though that chapter looks like it could be about to close, her role of Sally Webster – which she has played since 1986 – looks like it will continue for a while yet. Dynevor loves playing the social-climbing Sally Webster, who always dreams of living a grander, more opulent life. “She aspires to be like Carla Connor,” laughs Sally. “Sally is annoying and irritates a lot of people but I think she’s harmless and, deep down, people do like her. “Sally really gets on Sean’s nerves, for example, but he would still be protective of her if something bad happened to her. So I think people do feel sorry for her.”
