The TV Guide

... and more opinions laid bare

Last Friday night I finished watching

7 Days on Three and as there was nothing else on that interested me at the time, I decided to do a bit of channel surfing and the first thing I stumbled across was the dating show on TVNZ 2 called Naked

Attraction (9.30pm). That show was so disgusting. There was a self-acknowledged “party girl” who was sick of being single and didn’t care who she went out with. Pretty soon they were in the studio with six possible suitors in different-coloured perspex tubes. The tubes were then ordered to waist height, and there were completely uncensored nude examples of manhood totally exposed to not only the host and the contestant, but also to every person in the audience. She then methodically examined them and chose her favourites – the people in the tubes were then ordered to turn around and she compared their posteriors. I could not watch any more so I switched channels. This is nothing more than pornography and should not be aired. I will be avoiding this channel at this timeslot until this disgusting programme is removed. Totally Disgusted (Te Awamutu)

Where television was once deemed a thing of entertainment and information, it is now an anomalous thing. While Kiwi parents and organisations are lobbying to reduce the amount of sexually explicit content available to our children, television networks are showing the same stuff disguised in the form of entertainment via reality shows. The latest to emerge is on TVNZ 2 in the form of a ‘dating show’ where everyone but the host of the show is naked, and the person looking for a date first inspects the genitals of the contestants, before working their way up to the faces. Really? Is that how people find dates these days? Parents and lobby groups, you are losing the battle. TV networks are getting away with showing soft-porn shows like this because they have a ‘get out of jail free card’ in the form of the ‘contains nudity’ warning shown prior to the programme airing and, of course, by showing it after 9pm – knowing full well that most young people can view this stuff in their rooms or on their mobile devices. Jack (Whangarei) All we seem to get lately is sex, sex, sex on the telly – surely there are better shows for TVNZ to buy? What a shocker this Naked Attraction is. It is absolutely disgusting. I am not a prude and am broad-minded but this programme has really gone too far. Perhaps more considerate people should decide what should screen on telly as not everyone wants to see people posing in the nude, with everything hanging out and a young lady trying to choose which one she would like to date. This programme is just as bad as pornography. Some people may get their kicks out of this sort of thing but most viewers would probably turn off the telly or go to another channel. Love Island was better viewing than this programme and that wasn’t the best. So please remove this programme or put it on after midnight. It is absolutely yuk. Betty (Hamilton)
