Rock rolled
I was amazed to read that the reason the brilliant Irish police drama Red Rock was taken off was because it didn’t perform. What planet are these programmers on? Did they not think that it was perhaps the stupid time it was on (1pm), when most people are at work and not watching TV? This quality drama deserves to be on in primetime instead of the reality and repeats we are expected to watch. Judging by the letters in the latest TV Guide, a lot of viewers agree. Try bringing it back in a primetime slot and see how popular it will be. I think you will be surprised. P McNeill (Wellington)
I cannot believe TVNZ’s response to the letters from people, like me, who are totally disappointed with Red Rock being stopped. We never missed an episode. If we couldn’t watch it we recorded it. We have always watched
Emmerdale, but Red Rock was far more exciting. I just can’t understand why it was stopped and replaced with another repeat. Please put it back on. Lyn (Christchurch)
What numpties make the programming decisions at TVNZ? Along with many other viewers who wrote in, I also enjoyed the Red Rock series and was disappointed when it finished. I cannot understand the response of TVNZ 1, who justified taking it out of the schedule by stating it was because of poor performance. What chance did it have when it was not advertised and the timeslot it was given ensured that it would not get the best audience numbers? It was definitely worthy of a primetime slot and was far superior to some of the trash and repeats we have to endure, which are advertised and promoted well in advance. TVNZ, I would have to totally disagree with your comment that Red Rock didn’t perform well. Where do you get these ratings from? Our household absolutely enjoyed this programme. As other viewers have commented, this was an excellent drama with some gutsy plots and strong characters, and we tried not to miss an episode. And then to add insult to injury we are blessed with old Britain’s Got
Talent. Boy, am I ever sick of this regurgitated tripe your programmers are foisting upon us, obviously on the cheap. We now don’t watch TVNZ 1 in the afternoon. Why don’t you lot try screening Red Rock in a primetime spot? Way more people would tune in and watch something that is well written and has a bit of intrigue about it instead of constant cooking and renovating shows and other such reality junk.
